For more than two decades, my work has put me at the intersection of people, organizations, and change. I’ve advised executives, developed leaders, navigated difficult transitions, built teams, taught future managers, and sat in more conversations about people than I could possibly count.
Experience has given me expertise. It has also given me questions. The longer I lead, the less interested I am in leadership that only works on paper.
I’m interested in what happens when the framework meets the person. When the right decision isn’t obvious. When responsibility and accountability get confused. When a leader has to decide whether to stay through the storm. When the person everyone is following may no longer be capable of leading what comes next.
Those are the moments that have shaped how I think about leadership.
They’re also why I created The People Canvas.
My perspective wasn’t built from the sidelines.
I’ve spent my career leading within complex organizations, advising senior executives, developing people and helping organizations navigate the human side of change.
Today, my work spans executive leadership, organizational strategy, culture, talent, leadership development and the changing relationship between people and work.
I’m also an educator. Teaching keeps me close to the questions emerging leaders are asking and reminds me that leadership wisdom should never become so polished that it stops being useful.
My work and perspective have also created opportunities to speak, contribute to leadership conversations, and share ideas across different platforms and audiences.
I value those opportunities.
Still, the work I care about most happens when an idea makes someone reconsider something they thought they already knew.
Somewhere along the way, I realized there were leadership conversations happening privately that rarely sounded like the leadership conversations happening publicly.
I wanted to close that gap.
The People Canvas is where I do that.
The 8:00 Meeting starts the day with a leadership thought worth carrying into the first meeting.
1:22 creates a moment before the next decision.
The SketchPad gives the harder questions more room.
Across all of it, I’m interested in the same thing: leadership as it actually happens.
Not leadership performed.
Not leadership reduced to five steps.
Not another perfect framework for imperfect people.
The real thing.

For all the years I’ve spent leading, I still consider myself a student of leadership.
I read. I teach. I write. I listen. I change my mind.
I pay attention to people.
I’m fascinated by what makes us stay, leave, follow, trust, disengage, grow, protect, risk and change.
That curiosity extends beyond my professional life. Art, writing, beautiful spaces, culture and continued learning all influence the way I see people and the world around me.
Maybe that is why canvas has always felt like the right metaphor.
People are never finished.
Neither are leaders.
I don’t believe leadership gets easier with experience. I think we get better at seeing what actually matters.
